ethernet card failure

I just installed the new gsec patch 1.9.14-2.4.25 onto linux kernel 2.4.25 as instructed. Now no network operation is available whatsoever. Neither the loopback or eth0.

What can i check? there were no errors while compiling.

I have a Toshiba Satellite 1110.
