Purple screen hanging - Ubuntu 13.04, patch 3.10.7

There's my config.

It gets to the purple bootup screen and hangs, no blinking caps lock lights or anything.

unfortunately this is not enough information to go by, we'd need at least the kernel logs, maybe you can set up netconsole or something to get them during boot?

I haven't set up the logging but I did try 3.10.7 with UDEREF removed, and it boots. So the problem is probably with the newer version.

Is there a way to automate using the weaker version, if it's not possible to fix the fully working version with the info provided?

without the kernel logs i can't really tell what goes wrong but you can at least experiment with various UDEREF variants by passing in nopcid or pax_weakuderef and see what difference they make. also try a newer PaX or grsec patch, i fixed some issues in the past few days.
