Obtaining the latest kernel versions

Postby spender » Mon Oct 17, 2011 11:26 pm

I've received a number of mails about where to obtain the latest versions of Linux while the tarballs/diffs are still missing from kernel.org.
If you know how to use git, then you already know how to get the latest stable kernels, so for everyone else, I'm putting the interdiffs of stable versions up in http://grsecurity.net/~spender/

So for instance, start with:
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/ ... .4.tar.bz2
then apply:
http://grsecurity.net/~spender/patch-3.0.4-6
and then:
http://grsecurity.net/~spender/patch-3.0.6-7
to update to Linux 3.0.7

2.6.32.46 is the latest and is available via other kernel.org mirrors like:
http://mirror.anl.gov/pub/linux/kernel/ ... m/v2.6.32/

Apparently they listened to spender and decided to update the longterm kernel to 2.6.32.48.
These updates are neither available on kernel.org nor any mirrors.

There is also no changelog, which in itself is consequent if there is no patch or kernel to download.

Perhaps some people think spreading the sources using git is enough (unfortunately).

Hello,

I have the latest kernel for CentOS 6 - 2.6.32-358.14.1.el6.centos.plus.x86_64 . There is any chance to find out a patch available for this distribution ? I don't want to install the kernel from kernel.org because the latest patch for RHEL6 (CentOS6) have many bugs resolved.

Thanks!

we only support vanilla kernels (and lately, vserver too), everything else would need a proper port of grsecurity to that code base which is a non-trivial work for heavily patched kernels such as enterprise distros. if there's commercial interest in supporting such work then contact us in private please.
