/proc problem ?

Hello,
I am running 2.4.20-grsec kernel and I experienced the following problem:
When I was trying to exec something that was reading from /proc that process was getting stuck(ex: w,ps,lsof, etc). Average load increasing and also that process could not be killed(probably stuck on some state where signals were not reaching it)..
After reboot all was fine, so I did not hurry to upgrade kernel since I also dont have phisical access to box.
After about 90 days of working fine..it happened again...the same way..
Any ideeas? I did not even try to tune the kernel because I dont have any clue about when it happens..it worked fine for 90 days..heh
Could be some hardware problem? or a simple kernel update/tuning could fix it?
