ACPI problems: 2.6.14.7

Debian unstable
2.6.14.7 kernel
grsecurity-2.1.9-2.6.14.7-200602141849.patch (~spender)
glibc 2.3.5-13 (http://www.apt-get.org/text/?site=1095)
After installing Debian on my laptop and patching/configuring/compiling the 2.6.14.7 kernel, I booted up without any problems.
Gkrellm loaded, but the battery/ac status wasn't present and it was realized they were left as modules in the kernel config. So I built them into the kernel, recompiled, and booted into the updated image (well, tried). The boot process hung at INIT, and I had to manually power the laptop down.
Booted back to the (non-grsec) kernel image from the initial install, changed the battery and ac items back to modules. Rebuilt, rebooted to the grsec kernel. Debian loaded up smoothly, no problems. When I loaded the modules (modprobe ac ; modprobe battery), the system became slow and unresponsive.
As far as I've found, this is only a symptom in my grsec kernel image, and I did not have this problem back when I ran a 2.6.11.x-grsec kernel. I searched around the forums and google, but no indicative results were found.
Any ideas?
Also if there is any configuration or system output that you would like, please request it and I will attempt to post it as quickly as possible.
