your config looks normal as far as performance impacting features go however i have no idea why the intel_agp module would not load. what logs do you get when you manually modprobe it?

Well, i'm officially a bit worried now. On my VPS grsec works without any hickups, which is why i attempted it for my desktop.

This is what i get with a manual modprobe -v i915

modprobe i915
insmod /lib/modules/3.2.64-grsec/kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/i915.ko
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'i915': No such device

The only thread i found which did not give up on a similar issue mentions this could be a conflicting module loaded, i'll check that again.

i meant intel_agp, not i915 . also you could try compiling these modules into the kernel and see what happens.

intel_agp is loading fine, i suspect the vdieo module not to load

i will try the compilation without modules asap

hmm, your original report said that the intel driver would not load because intel_agp didn't, so what changed since then?

i should not post to a forum when being disgruntled/distracted by another issue, i'll check again and provide useful data feedback.

I believe since my initial post i had noticed two things and made small progress

1. the stock ubuntu kernel loads a video module which i've not seen on my own vanilla+grsec build
2. i (believe i) remember intel_agp is now loading but the i915 driver is still reporting blahblah 'no device found'
