Postby nonetwork » Thu Aug 09, 2012 8:20 am

NoNetworkConnectivity and PAM Unable to dispatch function, and empty syslog.
Regular debian kernel gets to network. Older grsec too.

After upgrading to the newest test patch and 3.5 kernel I have no syslog and can't get to the network. I can register to the network but can't send any packets, no ping no nothing.
Please help!

does a vanilla 3.5 kernel work fine? if yes, can you post its dmesg as well?

I don't have enough room on /boot to try both. Is there any other debug stuff I can do to show you with the grsec or should I just trash the 3.5 kernel and wait for the next version?

unfortunately i didn't see anything suspicious in your logs that would indicate network/etc problems (sidenote: why does wdm need to read the first page of physical memory?) so short of disabling grsec features and/or trying vanilla i don't know how else we can nail it down.

Why does wdm need to read the first page of physical memory? What is there other than some small part of the kernel?
I don't think luks crypto keys are kept there so it's not spying... right?
I only use wdm because xdm won't let anyone login.

it's not even the kernel there but the real mode interrupt vector table and BIOS data, not normally used by the kernel let alone userland. all the more interesting why anything in userland would need to look at it.
